Pola Brändle (born April 7th, 1980 in Aachen, Germany) is a German collage/decollage artist and photographer who lives and works in Berlin Kreuzberg, Germany. == Life == Brändle grew up in Aachen and after graduating from high school she joined the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts where she owned her Bachelor of Design in 2003. Brändle’s final work at the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts was supported by the "TENT Academy Award" (Rotterdam) together with nine other nominations 〔Exhibition TENT Academy Award, Contemporary Art and Spirits(CAS), Osaka, Japan ()〕 as best final works in the Netherlands. During her studies Brändle developed her artistic photographic potentials and discovered the fascination of posters and their artistic opportunities for further editing. After living in Portsmouth, Berlin and Lisbon, Brändle moved to the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. In 2012 Bränlde returned to Berlin Kreuzberg where she now lives and works. == Opus == Brändle photographs and edits posters.〔Contemporary poster artists (List in Wikipedia)〕 She uses posters as a commodity, in order to create independent art works of its own kind. The artist about her work: "I’ve travelled the world to follow my passion–photographing posterwalls–exploring the art of collague both natural and man-made as I go. Influenced by wind and weather, dripping rain and fading sunlight mixed with human vandalism, advertisements are changed into something new, something one of a kind. I search for these historically cultural moments and freeze them with my camera, stopping further decay by the preservation of that moment. These collages are in their own way alive. Developing every day as layers are added or stripped. I search for the perfect moment between relevance and destruction, picking out hints of local life or political strife among the bold colors and words used to sell events and commodities. Since 2003 I’ve explored these phenomena in over 25 countries, taking the photographs that lead to my first book „Plakatief – A World in Layers“, published by Kerber Verlag in 2011 and nominated for the Deutscher Fotobuchpreis 2012. In 2005 it became clear that the next step in developing my understanding of the poster collage was to make them myself, and using a combination of collage and decollage techniques began to build my own works of cultural reference. Sourcing most of my materials from beloved Berlin, but also collecting pieces along my travels enabled me to develop work that mixed cultural references in a way my photography never could. In 2009 I took the exploration of these techniques one-step further and began building iconic images and large scale portraits with these techniques. Along with a series of alternative and interactive approaches to presentation, these pieces have become the focus of my recent exhibitions and an excitingly diverse concept that I continue to explore."
